In a remarkable climax of the 6-week comprehensive in-house internship, the Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences has embarked on a 2-day industrial tour, offering Level 200 Diploma IT students a unique glimpse into the tech industry in Ghana.
Organized from November 9 to 10, 2023, the educational tour began after an intensive internship where students were immersed in key areas of information technology such as Mobile Application Development, Networking and CCTV, and Multimedia Technologies. This foundation of practical knowledge set the stage for an insightful visit to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s (KNUST) University Information Technology Services (UITS). The Students delved into the university’s cutting-edge IT infrastructure and installations. They also engaged in an enriching orientation on software development and explored KNUST’s sophisticated data center, gaining a deeper understanding of the complexities of tech support and solutions in an academic setting.
The exploration continued on the second day with a journey to Accra, where the students had the privilege of visiting the National Communication Authority (NCA) and the National Information Technology Agency (NITA). These visits were not just routine tours; they were interactive and engaging sessions that allowed students to delve into the operational frameworks and regulatory environments of these institutions. The NCA provided insights into the governance of communication systems, while NITA focused on the broader aspects of national IT infrastructure and policy-making. The students had an interactive session with industry professionals, participated in Q&A sessions, and witnessed the practical application of IT governance, enhancing their understanding of the sector’s challenges and innovations.
The industrial tour was more than just an educational trip; it was an eye-opener and a source of inspiration for the students, who expressed immense gratitude for this unique learning experience.
The Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences has once again proven its dedication to not only equipping students with theoretical knowledge but also providing them with invaluable real-world insights, thus preparing them for successful careers in the ever-evolving world of technology.
